PRESS RELEASE
St Francis Leprosy Guild mourns the death of Britain's longest-serving monarch
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

SFLG, London, UK, 8 September 2022: The Chairman and trustees and the executive team and staff join with its partners and people affected by leprosy worldwide, to mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It is a momentous day for the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and many nations worldwide as we contemplate the death of the longest-serving monarch in British history. Queen Elizabeth II has died after a glorious reign of over 70 years.
Many of us have never known another monarch and we will all mourn the end of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. Our thoughts are with the royal family and especially King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort" said SFLG's Chief Executive Officer, Clare McIntosh.

The words of the National Anthem “God Save our gracious queen, long live our noble queen, God save the queen” are resonating in my mind. Despite her great age and great spirit, the Queen’s death is still a terrible shock to us all.

It is a great blessing that we have lived in this Second Elizabethan Era, a time of considerable stability under a wonderful Christian monarch. The ideals that she promoted and embodied have enabled many charities, like St Francis Leprosy Guild, to devote time and energy to serving the world’s poorer communities. For that I am immeasurably grateful to her.

We will remember with sadness and gratitude the great life and great reign of Queen Elizabeth II."
