happy easter
As we approach Easter, a season of compassion and hope, I would like to take a moment to share with you the story of a woman whose courage reflects the very heart of our work at St Francis Leprosy Guild" SFLG's Director, Katharine Jones.
Nakibi, now in her seventies, lives near St Francis Nyenga Hospital in Uganda. She never had the chance to go to school. “My father died when I was young,” she told us. “If he had lived, I would have liked to be a teacher or a nurse.” Instead, she worked the land from childhood, growing beans and tending gardens with her bare hands. Her journey with leprosy has been long. Her leg was amputated 26 years ago, and she now lives alone, managing pain and anesthesia in both hands. Yet she still cooks, still walks to her small garden, still farms when she can. “I go out almost every day,” she says with pride. Life has been harsh. She once begged on the streets of Kampala to survive. But slowly, coin by coin, she saved enough to buy a small plot of land close to where her parents are buried. “It means everything to me,” she said.
This Easter, please will you help us continue to provide that love by sending a donation to St Francis Leprosy Guild. Your gift ensures that women like Nakibi are never forgotten, never abandoned, and always treated with dignity."
